2019 is shaping up to be a big chapter in the exaqueo story. As our client work grows and extends even more globally, our business and team is (once again) growing, too. This month, we’re thrilled to welcome three new members to #teamexaqueo!

Join us in welcoming April Sherman, #teamexaqueo’s newest Employer Brand Strategist and Engagement Manager. In this role, April will join our team of Employer Brand Strategists in helping our clients build their employer brands and the talent strategies that drive them. April brings over 15 years of experience in corporate brand marketing and communications, as well as employer brand marketing, for a Fortune 500 company.

My first order of business as April’s “exaqueo buddy” throughout her on-boarding process is to welcome April officially to our team and our unique way of working.

Although April is based in Plymouth, Wisconsin and I live in Toronto, Canada, we took the opportunity last week to sit down and video chat over coffee at our respective desks. While we are a 100% virtual team working from different locations across North America, we are also 100% committed to taking every opportunity to connect, and support each other.


(EC) What attracted you most about exaqueo in the Employer Brand Strategist role?

(AS) In my previous role, I found myself really drawn to the consulting side of the work. I had heard of exaqueo before and found the exaqueo model - the research and the data that drives the strategy - to be so impressive. It’s so real! I’m also attracted to the variety of work that consulting allows; the opportunity to partner with different companies, in different industries, and build customized solutions.

(EC) You worked remotely in your previous role and have now joined exaqueo’s 100% virtual team.  What has been your experience working remotely?

(AS) My experience working remotely has been great! If you’ve never done it before, it helps to do some advance preparation. Prepare your workspace (double and triple check your Wi-Fi connection, set up your computer and other equipment), eliminate distractions, add some decor you love, and occasionally give yourself a change of scenery by working from a comfy coffee shop for the day. The flexibility of working remotely has allowed me to do great work, while also taking care of myself and my family life.

(EC) What impact do you hope to make at exaqueo?

(AS) I hope to learn quickly, build strong relationships with the team and my new clients, and immerse myself in the work we do at exaqueo. Authenticity is important to me and I’m excited to work with our clients to unearth the gems that they should be celebrating about their company and people. I want to help organizations attract and retain people who will not only be successful there, but who themselves will feel fulfilled and at home.

(EC) What energizes you in your professional life and in your personal life?

(AS) What has always energized me in my professional life is building relationships. I like having conversations, getting to know the people I am working with, learning about their challenges, and working with them to address those challenges. In my personal life, spending time with my friends and family gives me energy. And books - I love learning.

(EC) How do you think your colleagues would describe you?

(AS) I think they’d say that I speak my mind, that I’m a supportive team player, that I put a lot of importance on communication and I’m a relationship builder.

(EC) What keeps you busy outside of work?

(AS) My two girls (ages 6 and 11) keep my husband and I very busy. But in addition to my family, I love spending time with friends, reading, traveling, and just being active—whether it’s doing yoga, working out, or being outside in nature.
