Welcome Margaret Moellenberndt to #teamexaqueo!


We are a team of brand, marketing, human resources, and communications strategists offering our clients authentic insight and unrivaled expertise to brand and market their unique employment experience from the inside out. And like our clients, we at exaqueo, have our own unique and authentic stories to tell from the perspectives of our brand, our company, and our individual colleagues. Today, we are excited to share a little bit about one of our newest team members, Margaret Moellenberndt

Margaret joins us as a brand strategist, where she’ll be supporting some of our clients’ greatest needs in attracting, retaining, and engaging talent. Whether it’s through conducting research, developing employer brand strategies, or executing creative campaigns, there is no shortage of ways Margaret will add value to our team. She brings more than 20 years of human resources, recruitment marketing, and communications experience.

Onboarding is an important step in building a new employee’s confidence and sense of belonging to a company. At exaqueo, we like to build that sense of belonging by assigning each new hire an “exaqueo buddy.” As Margaret’s “exaqueo buddy” I have the privilege of supporting Margaret throughout the exaqueo immersion and onboarding journey. It didn’t take us long to appreciate all the things we have in common! From day one, we realized we’re both creative spirits, passionate about physical fitness, and have a soft spot for animals (especially our rescues).  

We recently grabbed lunch together in our virtual office space to chat some more. Here are some of the highlights from our conversation that helped me get to know my new coworker. 

What made you want to join exaqueo?

I was looking for an organization where I felt that I could contribute more. I wanted to be somewhere that I could focus solely on employer brand, which is what I’m most passionate about. I heard the name “exaqueo” a lot from other people in the industry. I really liked the reputation exaqueo had for being a smaller, but incredibly dedicated organization. I would occasionally visit the employer brand jobs part of exaqueo’s website to see what opportunities existed. I was excited this summer when I saw exaqueo had an opening for an employer brand strategist, and I applied. 


What excites you most about your role at exaqueo?  

Now that I’m here, it’s the team and the collaboration within the team. It’s how everybody works together and that everyone is a contributor. It doesn’t seem like there are any true silos. I’m excited to be exposed to a variety of tasks, a variety of clients, and different working styles. It really seems like it’s going to be a great fit for me. I’m assured by the sense of teamwork and the idea that everyone’s all in. Right away, I could tell everyone is willing to jump in and get their hands dirty. 


What impact do you hope to make at exaqueo?

Having served in the U.S. Navy Reserves, I am incredibly passionate about military recruiting. I think my being able to bring that lens when we’re developing work for clients will be valuable. I know how to talk to military talent and what attracts them because I’ve been in their boots. 

I thrive on the challenges employer branding presents, like being able to develop messaging that attracts and retains that “purple squirrel.” In past lives, I’ve helped find lifeguards and aerobics instructors to go to Iraq. 


What are three words that best describe you?

Positive: I tend to be a “glass-half-full” type of person. No matter how difficult a situation, I can step back, look at it from an outsider’s point of view, and help find the positive. 

Encouraging: I love when my friends come to me with a problem or to be cheered up. It makes me feel good to pick other people up when they’re feeling down. 

Empathetic: My empathy is what helps me look at things from different perspectives. I am usually able to pick up on how other people are feeling through social queues. 


What do you like to do outside of work for fun? 

Spending time with my husband, my two boys, and our pets. We have a zoo at home with one dog and four cats. Two of our cats are rescued – one that my husband found behind a dumpster, and the other we found after a tropical storm, in a bush trying to escape the flood. 

I’m an avid baseball fan, especially the Astros, because I live in Houston. Six months out of the year, you can find me watching baseball. I am also really into physical fitness. I have a health coach who holds me accountable in the gym and has supported me along my recent weight loss journey. 

Finally, I love to paint. I’m not very good at it, but I do enjoy it. I don’t have as much time as I used to between my kids, and baseball games. 


What’s the most interesting thing about your home office set-up? 

I’m working out of my bedroom right now, so I’m getting a backdrop to block off the bed. Every room in this house is being used right now. I could work downstairs, but then you’ve got tile floor and barking dogs which would be too distracting. I like being upstairs because I sit in front of a big window where I can see the front of the house and what’s going on outside. It’s nice to see who’s coming and going, when my kids get home, and when UPS is dropping something off. 


What motivates or inspires you to do your best?

Encouragement – people taking the time to say nice things, and I make it a point to do the same for others. I think everybody likes encouragement. It always motivates me to go the extra mile. When my health coach tells me that he’s proud of the work I’m putting in, it always makes me want to do a little bit better.
